Storytellers: Mr. E and Friends

February 2, 2019 - 1:00 pm -3:00 pm

Voo Swar Restaurant & Lounge

In partnership with the City of Atlantic Beach and Voo Swar Restaurant & Lounge, the Beaches Museum presents Storytellers: Mr. E and Friends. Mr. Earnest Davis – owner of the Voo Swar and lifelong Beaches resident – spent his formative years in a segregated community working on the Jacksonville Beach Boardwalk and walking miles each day from Atlantic Beach to attend Public School no. 144. As a young man in the early 1960s, he had a vision to create a restaurant and dancehall that catered to black residents and visitors. Today, the walls of the Voo Swar need not talk for one can sit for hours with Mr. Davis (called Mr. E by friends and patrons) over lunch as he recounts a life well-lived. Join Mr. E and a panel of his friends as they share with us their stories of life at the beach from the 1940s to the present. Attendees will also be treated to the Voo Swar’s famous chicken wings. This is a ticketed, free event. Reserve your spot by visiting http://beachesmuseum.org/tickets/
