Thursday, June 13 at 6:30 PM, join us for a special Boardwalk Talk which will explore Johnny Woodhouse’s research into the 22 fallen WWII veterans of Jacksonville Beach remembered in Oceanfront Park’s World War II memorial.
The World War II memorial at Oceanfront Park is inscribed with the names of 22 Jacksonville Beach residents who died while serving in either the armed forces or the Merchant Marine from 1941-45. Collectively, the 22 casualties represent every branch of the military, including the U.S. Coast Guard. Six smaller stone monuments etched with the emblems of the five U.S. armed service branches and the Merchant Marine surround the polished granite war tablet.
Writer and editor Johnny Woodhouse spent 16 years with the Beaches Leader as Associate Editor covering police, law, education, and military news. He has written several self-guided history tours for the Museum as well as a number of featured articles. He is a 25-time Florida Press Association award winner and holds three National Newspaper Association awards for feature writing, sports writing, and sports photography.
The Boardwalk Talk is free to Museum members with a suggested $5 donation for non-members. Because seating space is limited, registration is required.
