Cummer Beaches Lecture: Dr. Scott Brown “The Cummer’s Parable of the Marriage Feast”

October 4, 2019 - 6:00 pm -8:00 pm

Beaches Museum

The Beaches Museum along with the Cummer Beaches Lecture Series presents Dr. Scott Brown for a free lecture “The Cummer’s Parable of the Marriage Feast”, hosted at the Beaches Museum Chapel. Among the masterpieces of the Cummer Museum is an exceptional but little-known painting from the northern Renaissance currently attributed to the sixteenth century master Pieter Aertsen.  The painting is not in fact by Aertsen, but the mystery of its authorship and its meaning turns out to be far more interesting.  The search for the mystery painter leads us into the heart of Renaissance Antwerp, the crisis of the Reformation, and one of the great art markets in the world at the moment of its reinvention.

The program is generously sponsored by Diane DeMell Jacobsen, PhD.

The Cummer Beaches Lecture Series is held in the historic Beaches Museum Chapel. Lectures start at 6:00 p.m., check in begins and refreshments are served at 5:30 p.m. Seats are first come, first serve. For more information, visit the website at cummermuseum.org/beaches.
