Beaches Museum & History Park
Please join Beaches Museum on Saturday, April 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the annual Springing the Blooms festival. Taking place throughout the Museum’s Pablo Historical Park, Springing the Blooms will feature horticultural exhibits, family friendly activities, educational lectures and live children’s music on the historic Foreman’s House front porch.
Guest Speakers:
10:00am: JoAnne Krestul presents “Vertical Gardening 101” which discusses how vertical gardening is the most sustainable way to grow your own produce in the convenience of your own home. “I love learning about food…especially fruits and vegetables and the incredible positive impact they play in helping our bodies work optimally at preventing inflammation and disease. Growing our own food is my perfect fit and has become a passion too! I will always love the ease and variety vertical gardening provides. Kale anyone?!”
11:00 Stephen Klem, parks naturalist for the City of Jacksonville stationed at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, will speak about “Life in the Sand Dunes”. The sand dunes that run along our coastline are a breathtaking but often overlooked sight on our beaches. Join naturalist, Stephen Klem, for a discussion about the plants and animals that inhabit this fragile ecosystem and why it is important for us to protect and preserve it.
12:00 Evie Pankok, Master Gardener, will inspire us to make a great first impression with sustainable landscaping in our yards. In cooperation with the City of Jacksonville and the University of Florida, Evie teaches homeowners how to be “green” and create more sustainable landscapes through the nine principles of the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program.
